Bard
Imagine the Bard as the leader of your group. They work well with others and can also handle tasks on their own. Bards are good at many things, especially talking to people and supporting their friends. They have a unique ability called Bardic Inspiration, which makes their pals better at fighting, doing tasks, and staying safe.
In battles and situations where success is crucial, Bards prove to be extremely valuable. Despite the idea that Bards are always joking, it’s important to recognize their significance within a group. They can make a real difference and contribute a lot to the success of your team. So, next time you face a Bard in BG3, remember that they bring more to the table than just humour!
Paladin
The Paladin class is a fantastic choice in Baldur’s Gate 3 for some excellent reasons. Paladins bring a unique blend of healing and combat skills, making them a versatile addition to your party.
Paladins have the ability to bless your team and utilize powerful radiant healing spells, depending on their chosen subclass. Additionally, they offer various attack options to deal with adversaries effectively.
It’s worth noting that Minthara, a companion who is a Paladin, can be recruited, but the process is specific and time-consuming. Therefore, having two Paladins in your party is unlikely.
One noteworthy subclass is the Oath of the Ancients, which provides access to the potent Healing Radiance spell. However, Paladins are adaptable, allowing you to explore other subclasses based on your preferred playstyle. So, choose the one that aligns with your approach to the game!
Barbarian
Barbarians in Baldur’s Gate 3 are all about being really strong, but they take more risks for that power. If you like running into groups of enemies, making a mess, and throwing things, Barbarians are a good pick.
But be careful – Barbarian abilities can sometimes put you in as much danger as the enemies. It’s smart to save your progress before fights, especially when you’re playing as a Barbarian.
There’s a character named Karlach who’s a Barbarian and could be a good teammate. But having two Barbarians can make fights more dangerous, and you might end up in more battles, which isn’t great if you depend on being persuasive.
When it comes to different types of Barbarians, the best one in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the Berserker. If you like Barbarians for their fury and big power, the Berserker is the way to go.

Warlock
Warlocks in Baldur’s Gate 3 have some cool spells to use, and Eldritch Blast is a powerful cantrip. They can also recharge their spell slots with a short rest.
In the game, there are many chances to take a long rest, and you’ll find plenty of supplies for it, so it’s not a big worry.
Wyll is a Warlock, and from my experience, having two Warlocks in the party isn’t a bad idea.
The best Warlock subclass in Baldur’s Gate 3 is The Fiend because it gives access to the Dark One’s Blessing.
This ability gives you temporary extra hit points when you defeat an enemy, which is very useful in battles against multiple opponents.
Wizard
Wizards in Baldur’s Gate 3 are spellcasters who use Intelligence. They have lots of spells, which makes them unique from other classes.
They can also recover their spell slots without requiring a long rest. This allows them to use powerful spells without the concern of running out.
Gale, one of the early companions, is a Wizard. However, using wizards can be challenging when facing numerous close-range enemies, as many of their spells are more effective from a distance.
Sorcerer
Sorcerers in Baldur’s Gate 3 provide a diverse range of spells and benefit from a high base Charisma, making them excellent for charming their way through the game.
They also have the broadest selection of Cantrips, offering versatility even when their spell slots are depleted.
However, they lack weapon skills, making them slightly less versatile compared to some other classes.
Monk
Monks are swift and powerful fighters who don’t wear armor or use weapons; they rely on their fists. They excel in close combat but are not as effective from a distance.
Unfortunately, there’s no Monk companion available for recruitment in the game. Therefore, if you wish to play as a Monk, you need to select it when creating your character.
For a stealthier approach, you can choose the Way of Shadow subclass for your Monk.
Keep in mind that all the classes in the game can be enjoyable to play, so don’t stress too much about which one to choose. Just go with the one you like the most and have a good time!
Ranger
If you enjoy nature and animals in Baldur’s Gate 3, you have several options, including subclasses and playing as a Druid. However, the Ranger might be your best choice. While not the strongest, having an animal companion compensates for any challenges.
You can recruit Minsc as a companion, and he’s also a Ranger. However, he joins your party later, giving you the chance to showcase your animal skills on your own.
The best Ranger subclass in Baldur’s Gate 3 is undoubtedly Beastmaster because it allows you to have a pet. You can choose between a bear, boar, spider, raven, or wolf.
Baldur’s Gate 3 B-tier Classes

Cleric
Clerics play a crucial role in battles by providing valuable support through buffs and healing spells. The presence of Shadowheart, an early companion who is a proficient Cleric, might influence your choice. Keeping her in the party can handle the healing aspect, allowing you to focus on other classes to diversify your team and enhance damage output.
Exploring the Life Domain subclass for Clerics proves beneficial, particularly if you decide to take on the role. This specialization not only adds to your healing capabilities but also ensures that your support role is optimized for the well-being of your party members.
Fighter
Fighters are versatile warriors, excelling in combat. While not skilled in conversation or exploration, they shine in battles, whether on the front lines, attacking from a distance, or eliminating formidable foes.
Their unique ability, Second Wind, allows them to heal during combat, contributing to the overall well-being of the party. Additionally, Action Surge enables them to take extra actions in a turn, enhancing their combat effectiveness.
However, compared to Barbarians or Monks, Fighters may not deal as much damage, placing them in the B-tier. Despite this, they prove valuable for multiclassing, particularly when combined with Rogue abilities.
Druid
Druids in Baldur’s Gate 3 are versatile. They can turn into animals, which is cool. However, it’s not as free as in 5E, where you could be any animal you knew. Still, they can do a lot of stuff.
Druid spells are about nature and elements. They can talk to animals and control nature. That’s neat.
But they can’t do everything as well as classes made for one thing. You can find some Druid stuff in items and loot, too. BG3 gives you a lot of useful things.
Baldur’s Gate 3 C-tier Classes
- Rogue
Rogue
Rogues in Baldur’s Gate 3 are fantastic at exploring. They can unlock doors, disarm traps, sneak past enemies, and even steal things quietly.
In long battles or when they don’t initiate, they’re not as strong. So, with a Rogue, pick your battles wisely to maximize their abilities.
